Discover the ancient cave-city of Matera, famous for its sassi, homes carved into the rock, and explore the characteristic trulli, rural homes resembling a whitewashed cone made of small limestone slabs, scattered among olive groves in and around Alberobello. Marvel at the whitewashed houses in Ostuni and admire the baroque splendour of Lecce. Stay in a luxury seaside resort in a 16th century fortress in Monopoli, followed by simple but elegantly styled traditional trulli accommodation in the Locorotondo countryside.

Day 1:

Bari – Monopoli Private transfer from Bari airport/station to Monopoli, a delightful port just south of Bari, and check into your luxury resort. Meet for an introductory talk and welcome dinner in a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2:

Trani – Castel Del Monte Travel to Trani with its beautiful port and impressive Norman cathedral. After lunch, continue to Castel del Monte, the Emperor Frederick II's mysterious octagonal castle and hunting lodge which inspired the library in Umberto Eco’s novel “The Name of the Rose”. This evening is at leisure. (B,L)

Day 3:

Polignano a Mare – Bari – Giovinazzo Today will be spent visiting Polignano al Mare, Bari’s historical centre and Giovinazzo, some of Puglia's most evocative seaside towns clinging to the cliff faces of the Adriatic sea. (B,L)

Day 4:

Alberobello - Locorotondo - Martina Franca Drive through some of Puglia’s most evocative landscape, the area of the famous Trulli, conical stone structures originally built in dry stone which dot the landscape. Visit Alberobello to see a whole town of them, after which you will settle into your own trulli accommodation just outside the town of Locorotondo. This afternoon visit Locorotondo and Martina Franca. Dinner is at the accommodation. (B,D)

Day 5:

Matera Visit Matera, the city of stone, to see the oldest sassi, ancient homes carved right into the rock. Matera has been used as the backdrop for several films including the Passion of Christ and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dinner at the accommodation. (B,D)

Day 6:

Lecce – Ostuni Lecce is an historic Baroque city and is often nicknamed “the Florence of the south” because of its abundant art and culture. Guided visit in the town and free time for lunch. In the afternoon visit Ostuni, known as the “white fortress”. The afternoon is at leisure. Farewell cocktails and dinner at the accommodation. (B,D)

Locorotondo – Bari Morning group transfer to Bari airport/station. (B)
