Liguria & Cinque Terre

The Ligurian region is perhaps best known for The Cinque Terre, meaning “five lands”, one of the most unspoilt coastal areas of the Mediterranean. A series of five small seaside villages – Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore - scattered along the Ligurian coastline, perched between sea and land and surrounded by green hills and spectacular scenery. They represent a time from the past, still maintained in the traditional ways; with a history of man’s struggle against difficult terrain with the result apparent through the local people, picturesque villages and unique wine and food still produced in this region.

Visit Cinque Terre to observe the original dry-stone walls and cliffside vineyards still maintained, the fisherman and their fishing nets, the steep valleys and the paths that crisscross the landscape, linking each village to the next.  Visitors to the Cinque Terre can choose between a dive in the sea, a hike in the hills or a walk in the narrow alleys called “carruggi" ; a boat trip between villages or a seafood lunch by the ocean.

Other highlights of Liguria include the magnificent Riviera villages of Portofino, Santa Margarita Ligure, Portovenere, Camogli , Sestri Levante and major historic ports of Genoa and La Spezia.
